Every girl who could have the power, will have the power. Can stand up, will stand up.

Let's talk about Chicks, Man...

In local news, one of the controversial "Bikini Baristas" down in Tacoma took matters into her own hands when she was repeatedly visited by a man wearing women's underwear and flashing her. Jamae Feddock hit this douchebag with a cup full of 220-degree water. Should make that cold shower he needs feel that much better.

In sports, Team USA continues to roll on, and will face up against Becky Hammon and the Russian team tomorrow in the Semi-Finals. Commandant Bush and Grampy McSame aren't the only people interested in re-igniting the Cold War, I guess.

Australia is also kicking butt, but has been hampered by injuries. Penny Taylor sprained her ankle, and Seattle Storm leader Lauren Jackson will be going home to Sydney after the Olympics to have surgery on her ankle as well, which means she won't be returning to the team for the remainder of this season. If she recovers well, and the Storm get to the WNBA Finals, LJ might be able to play then.

Sigh. Not so worried now about missing playoff games while Steph and I are in Australia in October.

I can't even imagine having to make a decision like this, or watching anyone I know having to, but Christina Applegate recently stated that she had a double mastectomy after being diagnosed with breast cancer and having tested to have the genetic disposition towards this disease.

I'm impressed, and proud, and in admiration of this strong woman, and any woman who would choose this drastic measure. She's not Kelly Bundy anymore. To crib a line from Defamer, Applegate may not have breasts now, but she's certainly got balls.

If you’re feeling inclined, go make a donation.

Congratulations to Rachel Maddow, who has just been upgraded at MSNBC from frequent analyst and regular guest host on Keith Olbermann's show to host of her own show on the network!

Rachel will be taking over the 9pm Eastern/6pm Pacific slot right after Keith that is currently occupied by Dan Abrams, beginning on Sept. 8th. Rachel's radio show will still be on the air from 6-9pm (3-6 Pacific), on AM1090.

I'm so happy for Rachel, and can't wait to watch her on the TV machine!

Lastly, I know that there has been a lot of talk within my circle about sexual harassment and the treatment of women at conventions specifically, and of women in society at large, and I'm on the record as concurring with all of it.

However...Jennifer Love Hewitt tells Health Magazine that "[she wishes she] had been nude from the time [she] was 12 until [she] was 28."

Since she brought it up, I don't feel bad at all with my complete and total agreement with that statement.

It's never too late to make up for lost time, Love.

Re: Bikini Baristas - Good for her! Hopefully she won't face any charges if the guy tries to sue for damages.
However, I still think these coffee stands that have scantilly clad women serving the public are unecessary and in poor taste. It's just a matter of time before something worse happens.

And in a total 180 degrees: Jennifer Love Hewitt Nekkid?!? Now, I'd drive by HER coffee stand!
Heck! Let's carpool!

I think Katy Perry said it best: "I kissed a girl...and I liked it."

I meant to comment on your previous comicon harassment post, but didn't get to it.

I find a lot of irony in the fact that many of these guys are/were the harassed in most situations. Strange thing happens when you get a large group of them in one place and all of a sudden THEY become the majority.

Guess it all comes down to social skills and a simple set of moral and ethical guidelines...some have it, most don't.

@FN Yeah...this post was kind of at odds with itself, but I think I'm on the right side of the issues. Coffee Stand Flashers bad; JLH in the alltogether good.

@CJ You mean "these guys are/were the harassed in most situations" as they get labeled and treated poorly by others outside the geek-arena, and therefore they act out with a pack mentality when they spend the weekend together in some hotel ballroom or convention center?

I can see that, and you're probably right. The "everyday" geek to "unwashed celler dweller" geek at most cons is still lopsided towards the latter, sadly.

Yea...the nerds become the jocks. They get into a situation where they are no longer on the bottom of the totem pole, and they treat those deemed "below" them just as they were treated in the high school lunchroom. More transference of the nerds than revenge.
